Chapter 10: To answer your question, I think Tom went with his family because he forgot about his parole. Or he might be able to do his parole in California. I think that Grandpa wanted to go at first, but kind of changed his mind because he didn’t really want to leave. Since, that’s where he grew up and all. I think that Ma knew that Grandpa might want to stay. That’s why she carried the sleeping syrup.
Chapter 12 did seem to talk in the author’s point of view of the farmers who move from their home country to California for a better life. I think that it’s heartbreaking for them because they have to sell their personal belongings. Also, it’s sad how there cars keep breaking down and then they get scammed because they don’t have enough money to buy a new car. I think that it’s very embarrassing for the people who have to get a ride from someone to get to California because they don’t have enough money to buy a car.
