Hey Julianna,
Chapter 7 talked about how some people make a living. They sell old cheap cars that don’t sell often. So the sellers try to cheat the people into buying them by telling them that the buyers are wasting their time and how the car is in good shape. Some of the buyers end up buying the old used cars because they want to go somewhere else. I think it’s bad for them to cheat their own people into buying used old cars. What do you think? I also agree with you that chapter 7 has to do with the car salesmen cheating the buyers. The car salesmen want money and they are being smart of how to sell their junk cars. Yet, it’s also sad how the buyers don’t have any choice but to buy the car. I think the car salesmen feel bad about cheating the buyers, but they don’t have a choice either.
In chapter 8, there was a happy family reunion. The family was celebrating Tom’s visit. I kind of got the feeling that Tom’s mom was glad to see Tom, but was thinking about how their futures will be. They told Tom that they would be heading to California, after they got everything on the truck (106-107). I agree with you that chapter 8 was a great surprise for Tom’s dad and their meeting was sweet too. It was kind of funny how both of Tom’s parents were happy to see him, but the first question that came to their mind was, “Tommy, you ain’t busted out? You ain’t got to hide?” (223). I think that Tom can do his prole in California, but I’m not sure. However, they are just happy that Tom is with them.
In Chapter 9, I agree with you that it is very depressing for the people when they move to California. It’s sad how they have to sell their personal belongings. I would also feel heartbroken if I had to sell some of my personal belongings But I would understand why we had to sell them.
