Hi Griselda
To answer your question, I think that it is wrong for the car salesmen to cheat their own people. I also think that they are doing the right thing for themselves. Everybody is heading to California and wants a car so the salesmen think this is the perfect time to cheat everybody and make more money. Also, after everybody leaves, there won't be anyone else to buy a car so they are getting all their money's worth now. It's wrong but it benefits the salesmen, cheats the buyers but they also get the car they wanted.
Chapter Seven- As I mentioned in the first paragraph, I think that what the car salesmen are doing is wrong but they are being smart about it. They are selling these beat-up cars that can hardly run but they cover up the flaws by putting saw dust in the car to cover up noises and they patch up the tires. What is sad, is that the buyers know they are being cheated of money but they need a car before they can go to California and they have to take what is given.
Chapter Eight- I think it was a great surprise how Tom walks up to his father and says "pa" and then just waits. The reaction of his father is very sweet. If I were Tom, I would be embarrassed because the first thing his father asks him is, "Tommy, you ain't busted out? You ain't got to hide?" (223). A little later, Tom's father says to sneak up on his mother inside the house and when she sees him, the first thing she asks is the same thing. They are all really excited to go to California together, except Tom hasn't told them he can't go otherwise he would break his prole.
Chapter Nine- It must be very depressing for the families who have to go to California. It is a new life for them but to just get up and go must be very difficult. Also, these families need enough money to get them to California and the only way they can do that is if they sell their personnel belongings. If it were me, and I had to sell my dolls or my pets even to raise enough money, I would be heart-broken because that was my past and I HAD to give it away. How would you feel if that happened to you?
